Three Piece Story

Description
This 3 piece suite was written for the unusual combination of Flute, Oboe, Clarinet and Piano for the Dash Quartet in 2024. This piece serves as a metaphor for working in a group.
Ripples (beginning) starts with swirling repeated motifs punctuated with more jagged staccato repeated notes, symbolising the excitement and urgency of setting up a new venture with others.
Flowing (middle) is a contemplative and grounded piece. The piano repeated chords provide a steady bedrock for the group, whilst each of the wind instruments works collaboratively moving in and out of shade, receiving, sharing and relinquishing the limelight with each phrase.
Switch (end) moves between jazz and classical styles symbolising an adaptive quality. It brings together these two genres rapidly switching between the two.
