Praia Mar
£7.50 – £10.00
Description
This short solo piece was composed in October 2000, in Carcavelos, near Lisbon, Portugal. Praia Mar (loosely, ‘Seashore’) takes its name from the composer’s hotel, overlooking the Adriatic Ocean. Constructed as a quasi-rondo (A B A1 C B1 Coda), this moto perpetuo, tonal piece has a lilting swing, with jazz-flavoured syncopation, which exploits the whole range of the instrument. Praia Mar was written for Alexa Walters who gave the premiere at the Royal Palace, Sintra on the 19th of Octobert as part of a concert by pupils of St. Helen’s School, Northwood, UK, who were on a music tour.
