My paternal grandmothers home where children played in the sun drenched streets and the sultry evenings were filled with laughter and music. A light hearted and jocular first section is marked ‘Allegro Assai’. The players neatly dance around each other and produce a frolicsome atmosphere. The middle section marked ‘Andante’ is darker and more intense. A Neapolitan melody echoes across the courtyard as the bassoon sings. Finally a return to the capricious first melody but with extended ornamentation throughout. The ending is marked ‘Stringendo al fine’ and enables both players to sparkle. This piece has been set by the ABRSM for Grade 6 Bassoon from 2022.
