Description
The first movement (Black) starts with a bright melody with some ragtime-like touches. This then gives way to a slower more lyrical section with a Balkan feel to some of the harmonies. After a brief cadenza, this then returns to the opening idea to finish. The second movement (White) is a showcase for the instruments versatility, with flashy scale and arpeggio patterns alternating with declamatory, almost operatic statements.
