Thornbury Air

Description

This music was written for the Thornbury Clarinet Choir’s playday 2018. The brief was to produce a lyrical, topical work which gives everyone an interesting part. The music has a modal tonality to begin with, reflecting the historical beauty of the Thornbury area. This leads to a more modern section to reflect the juxtaposition of a modern town with quaint and charming features. The textural variation is designed to allow all the nuances of the instruments to mix and blend, exploiting the timbres of the clarinet choir. The music is accessible to performers and listeners in any varied programme.
